Brown Realty, a property management and development firm, was originally founded in 1918 by Theodore Gustav Brown. One of his sons, Earnest Claiborne Brown, joined the firm after his return from WWI, and around 1920 the firm name changed to Brown & Brown Real Estate.
Theodore passed away around 1922 and Ernest maintained the firm until his passing in 1954. Earnest's son, David Garland Brown, took over the firm at this time and merged with his friend, Jacob West, forming Brown, Brown & West Real Estate. After surviving the Great Depression in 1929 and then WWII, the firm was growing and prospering.
Jacob reposed in 1976 and David continued to run the company as sole Owner until his passing in 2006. David's son, David, now owns and operates the Company after merging his company, Garland Realty & Management with Brown, Brown & West. The firm is one hundred and three years old and is now in its fourth generation of the Brown Family.
Brown, Brown & West currently owns and operates approximately 1,000 apartments with locations in Knox, Blount, Sevier, and Roane Counties. In addition to residential development, the firm owns and manages several commercial properties. We are a small business and endeavor to support other small businesses in our local community, Knoxville, TN.
The Director of Operations is Anthony Smitherman, who does an excellent job in maintaining the day to day operations and maintenance. He obtained his B.S. degree at U.T., Knoxville, his M.S. degree at U.T. Chattanooga and has a Broker Real Estate License, is certified in HVAC, Indoors Environmentalist, and Painting Environmentalist.
Our staff, consisting of office personnel, managers, and maintenance personnel are the backbone of the company and do an excellent job for us and our customers. All are well-trained and knowledgeable in their respective areas of work. Our goal is to give good and prompt service to all the residents in the communities we manage.
